Fran:

Join me as I interview offering business owners and self-improvement speakers about their experiences of delping into personal development, motivation, and strategies for overcoming challenges. Let's ignite our creative potential together. Hello and welcome to Melancholy Coaching Podcast. I'm Fran, your NLP and business coach, here to introduce season four. I've got my partner. I know I know we made it to season four, amazing. So I've got my partner in life and business with me today. We're going to explore poor business basics example that inspires motivation and creativity. You're welcome to adapt these ideas to your own life and business. So Evan, welcome to the show. Thank you. So here's a bit of background information for our listeners. Evan and I host two radio drama YouTube channels. So Melancholy Mentor is inspired by classic literature, and Mystery Mythos is inspired by science fiction. We're going to explore Mystery Mythos as a business basics example. So you've been sharing these stories for a little while, haven't you, on on YouTube? So let's get into your big idea. Your Mystery Mythos channel.

Evan:

Okay. And my big idea is the monetization of the YouTube channel that I've got going. And I would love, love to add merch to that as well and have some merch.

Fran:

Okay. So on YouTube, there are different levels to get to in the way of subscribers, isn't there? That then unlocks whether or not you can monetize any of the videos or the channel itself.

Evan:

Yeah. Yeah.

Fran:

Not quite yet there yet. So we're able to add a thanks button because even the smaller channel has got a thanks button. So if anyone wants to just like tip us, then that's in place. But we're not actually at the at the monetization stage yet with either channel, are we?

Evan:

No, because you've got to get to a thousand, a thousand subscribers.

Fran:

Do you also have to get to a thousand subscribers to add a shot or like to add the merch?

Evan:

No, I think I could do that now if I wanted to. I think I get merch.

Fran:

Yes, I get it. So it's a big idea, not quite ready for that stage as yet. Right, so there we go. That's the idea for it. It's going to go into monetization and merchandise. So next with the business basics, the next thing we're going to delve into is the mission statement. So a mission statement it defines the core mission. So you can include what the business does, who it serves, how it does it, and the purpose. So basically, it's the why. It's the why the business exists. So what words define the mystery mythos why?

Evan:

Bring in sci-fi mystery stories to curious minds.

Fran:

Yeah, I like that.

Evan:

That's what I'm saying.

Fran:

Okay. So as always, I work off templates, and I'm very transparent about this. So anybody that's listened to previous podcasts should know that I work off a bit of a template for the script and we talk around it. And I do that with my life, I do it with my routines, and it just helps keep my mind on track. Um, and this started after many, many years of depression, and then I actually retrained during the pandemic as neurolinguistic programming coach, and from then I started to put my own systems in place and my own kind of templates in place and stuff like that. So that's just a little bit more about me. Um bringing sci-fi and mystery stories to curious minds. So now we're going to move on to a vision statement. Sometimes this gets kind of a little bit interchanged or confused with a with a mission statement. So mission statement is meant to be more direct, more concise, more targeted, and it's more for your direct audience. So it could be based by country or county, you know, area, things like that to just bring it in a little bit more. A vision is big. Um I can say at the moment it's big. So it's what the business would hope to achieve in the future. So it's the it's global, it's the big picture. So what's what specifically do you think is a vision statement for mystery mythos?

Evan:

To evoke nostalgia and a sense of being in everyone, yeah, I like that.

Fran:

And that's definitely global because it includes the word everyone. So who are they, where are they, they're everywhere, you know. And so it's bigger. And these can act like you your mission and your vision as well can act like your North Star and your guided light. And I actually believe that we can use this within our lives as well for our self-improvement. So we have our own personal values and we can have our own personal mission in life and things like that. This is just an example from a business point of view, and we've pre-prepared some of it, and then you know, some of it not, which is the story of my life, really. Let's get into the core beliefs mystery mythos. So these are the core principles, so they're standards that guide behavior and decisions. So basically, it's values. So the values you can have your own personal values that are either the same or similar as your as your business values, or you can have separate ones. And in the context of like our whole life, we can have many values, we can have up to 30 values because they can go between spiritual development, you know, finances, work or business, and they're all different contexts. So throughout the whole of the context of your life, you can have many values. So we're just talking about like what ones could be business values here. Now, there's a certain way to elicit values. For the purpose of this example, we're just gonna dive straight into it. So, Evan, what values resonate with you most or mystery mythos?

Evan:

Definitely curiosity, creativity, and community. I like those.

Fran:

The three C's. Yes, yes, just realise that. So let's explain a little bit more about your your thinking around this. So, curiosity, how did what was it about curiosity that makes you think that it's a value?

Evan:

Well, hopefully, by people sort of listening to the radio dramas, it will kind of pique their curiosity into the stories. Some of the people on there have heard them before, but they've kind of revisited them and then remembered other things, and then other people have never heard them before, but they start looking into like the authors, the background of the like that.

Fran:

So, yeah, I like that. So it kind of adds further, kind of learning, you know. Yeah, it's like the the beginning of that rabbit hole, yeah, of curiosity. And how about creativity?

Evan:

Creativity from the point of view of the fact that I'm sharing videos alongside the the audio radio dramas. So hopefully they'll think, oh, well, you know, that's creative, and it might inspire something in them, or it might kind of make them think about something else, maybe, and then go, oh yeah, maybe I could do that, but also from the point of view of the actual radio dramas themselves. So hopefully it's inspire creativity within the person listening to it.

Fran:

Yeah, they can go off and create their own channel or even their own radio drama.

Evan:

Exactly.

Fran:

Yeah, yeah. Um, and community.

Evan:

Community because I want people that kind of hopefully subscribing to the channel to be on there, and there's obviously opportunity for them to chat amongst themselves by leaving comments. So in kind of getting a to and fro conversation, and then I even get comments, so obviously I'm having a conversation with them as well. So it's all about the community on there.

Fran:

I like that. Right, we're gonna go in a certain direction now, yeah. And I know you're gonna feel this one, Ivan. So you know those times when people ask that dreaded question so what do you do? They say, So what do you do? What do you do? And you want to run away.

Evan:

I do, I do, it's just so hard.

Fran:

I know. Well, we're gonna dive into that.

Evan:

You're gonna put me on the spot.

Fran:

Um, so we're gonna craft a basic elevator pitch, and this this is what will help you. So it's it's so named because it's said to be within the time that it takes an elevator to get from one floor to another. And I like the word elevator. We're based in the UK, so we're in England. We use the word lift, yeah. So to us, an elevator is a lift, but it doesn't quite sound so impressive, does it, as um lift lift pitch, you know? Um, so we're gonna say elevator pitch. It's a little bit similar in some ways to an I help statement. So an I help statement can be part of an elevator pitch. That's I help to do this by giving them that, you know, it's like a little way of saying it. But this one is so you probably get maybe a minute just to speak. So here's a step-by-step guide. You can start with telling your audience who you are, you can include your pronouns if you want to, where you're based, what your position is. Next is to create a unique sentence that summarizes your relevant expertise. So for me, it would be I'm a master NLP coach and business strategist, you know, Radi Bar. And then you can engage the audience, so whoever you're speaking to. So this could be even at a networking event or just somebody you know that you do meet in a in a lift. So what do you do? Which could be a little bit out of context, but you know, so you engage your audience by presenting a compelling goal statement that clearly states your request. So that could be just as simple as you know, I would like people to apply to be on my podcast. So you it's like a you know, the reason for you saying what you're doing, and then you can share an idea of reaching the goal that you've identified. So I'm not too sure what that would be for the podcast stuff. So it could be, you know, right, I'm on season four already, and I'd love you to be part of it, and you know, we're we're gonna wrap it up after that, and something like that. So it depends on how you know how concise you can be about this, and then once you've it's established your objectives, so who you are, where you are, what you do, what you're after, you can propose a solution, so or or you can provide more detail. So you've you've can pro you can already have proposed a solution, I suppose. So the solution could be by joining my coaching program, you get this, this, and this, or you get to have that transformation, or whatever it is, you can apply it. Literally, it's just a framework, you can apply it to whatever it is that you want to talk about, and it sounds really confusing. I remember when I first started to read about this a few years ago when I when I started the coaching, it blew my mind. Yeah, I was like literally like I just could not make hence or head nor tail of any of this, and it's why we like to share the business basic stuff. Evan and I don't keep anything. We've got a lot of complementary information and access to us as well, and we like to help and support people. So it sounds a bit like chunky and overwhelming, but it gets to be simple. So going basically on that framework, I know you've already looked at it. So, what would your elevator pitch be, Evan?

Evan:

Okay, I'm Evan, they them. I curate radio dramas and add original video for YouTube, perfect for sleep, nostalgia, and immersive listening.

Fran:

Yeah, see, I like that. So that's quite concise. Now, whether or not that then directly gives them the solution, because it could be, you know, if so while you're doing your housework or driving to work, or if you have trouble sleeping, or you know, if you get more time to speak because they're they're you can see that they're actively listening and they're interested, you can add more to it. But that's a very concise version, isn't it? Yes. That's gonna help you because I know that you'd rather run for the hills than actually answer the question. So what do you do?

Evan:

Yeah, yeah. I mean, that's that's a good one. I mean that that feels like it's quite easy.

Fran:

Yeah, it's just a slight framework, and you can say for anybody listening, you can adapt this stuff to what it is that you want to do and what it is that you want to say, all of it. If you want to know more about eliciting values or you know what that means to you, then by all means connect with me and I'll take you through that. I help people from creatives, people you know, literally creating things, and graphic designers and other YouTubers, to new coaches, or even established coaches that don't have the business basics in place. So it's lots of lots of different stuff. So that leads me nicely on to uh banking uh listeners. So thank you for joining us as we explore business basics. There's lots more to explore, but this is just the the bottom part, it's just the tip of it. And we hope that you've enjoyed this introduction. And there's lots more that we can share as well. So for those of you interested in learning more about what Evan and I get up to, you can find us on YouTube. So Evan is there as mystery mythos. So is that just mystery mythos together, or does it have an underscore or anything? I don't think to look.

Evan:

I think it's got an underscore. It's like underscore mythos.

Fran:

And then we've got melancholy mentor again. I can't remember whether that's all one word or two. Let me find it. This is how like unprepared I am. So Melancholy Mentor just is just completely together, one word, like melancholy mentor on um YouTube that shares radio dramas that are based on classic literature, and the accompanying videos to them I film along the coastline, so it's normally the seaside or woodland, something like that. And then we've also got a new channel which has started, which is melancholy coaching. So you could either be listening or watching this like via YouTube, so therefore come and find our podcast or the other way around. So we're also on YouTube with the podcast under Melancholy Coaching. You can find me knocking around on the internet, Fran Barley, and we've also got a group on Facebook. So for anybody that's interested in Facebook groups, we're on there under community. No, what is it? It's Creative Flow and Business. So we've created that's why I said community, we've created a community on Facebook, and it's called Creative Flow and Business. Um, and you can find Evan and I in there. And what we do is we just share daily motivation and just you know get people to reach out for us if they want some support, either whether it's with self-improvement or whether it's with like their business basics or getting going with their business. Yeah. So that's us. You can look Evan up as well if you like, but I don't think there's a lot there because you mainly hang out on YouTube, don't you?

Evan:

Yeah, yeah. I literally am on YouTube like so much.

Fran:

But so you can you can find um melancholy coachings on Facebook as well, but I tend to just cross post from Instagram. My Facebook account is really little because I got suspended and started again. Um so anyway, you know, enough of that. If you're interested in more content like this, be sure to visit www.melancholymentor.com and follow us for the latest updates. So on Melancholymentor, it includes a little bit about both of us, so you can get to know us a little bit more. It's got a podcast section, so it just kind of highlights the most recent podcasts that were on there, but we're on all main podcast platforms, and it's got ways to work with me. So there's a lot of complimentary ways to work with me and with Evan as well, because Evan does tech support, and there's you know, there's paid ways to work with me that are all really budget. So my positioning is budget because I want it to be accessible, people, and I want you all to kind of know that you can you can have things available to you, you know. So whether it's that you want to work on limiting beliefs, whether it's that you want to start your own business, you know, anything that's generally holding you back. So as a coach, I work on the now and move you forward. We can go and tidy up the past. So I'm not a therapist, but we can go and tidy up the past. I am Trilmer informed, and I'm a master NLP coach and business strategist. So we tidy up the past, see whereabouts you're at, and get you moving forward. And until next time, stay curious and keep igniting your creative potential. Bye. And that's it. That's it, Evan. Bye. Bye. Thank you for joining me on the Melancholy Coaching Podcast. I'd love you to subscribe. For queries or to connect, email info at melancholymentor.com. Until next time, keep igniting your creative potential.
